A growing share of Americans are working beyond their 65th birthday for multiple reasons.

In 1965, the average American lived only 10-12 years after retirement. Today, people need funds available to live 15 or 20 years beyond retirement. Sometimes the funds are not there at 65.
Sometimes the poor health of a spouse prompts a person to work more. Sometimes workplace incentives keep a person in the workforce.
Sometimes a person just loves work and hates retirement.
In 2014, more than 33 percent of Americans 65-69 worked at least part-time, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
